Kick Start Your Blog

Why are there so many blogs?

Blogs are plentiful because they are easy to create for free by making use of software and hosting such as found at http://www.blogger.com. Starting a blog is a great way to create a web presence. A beginner (or newbie) may however find the first steps towards creating a blog confusing. This article aims to provide a few pointers for the newbie who wishes to take these first steps. Remember we were all newbies at some stage - and many of us still are!

The evolution of blogs:

Blogs have grown from a place to communicate with others who share similar interests to forums being used for various purposes. Yes, you can even earn money by blogging, but that doesn't just happen out of thin air. It requires training, hard work, planning and research. But we all have to start somewhere so why not start by creating our own blog for free? This is a fairly simple process and once you have your blog(s) you can test different designs, postings and content. The sites mentioned above will allow you create a number of different blogs but remember that you have to maintain them to be effective - so don`t overdo things! (see further down for excellent articles on software and places to host your blog for free).

Blogs vs. web sites:

In general it can be stated that it is more difficult and expensive to create your own website than creating a blog. To establish a web site one must go through the process of registering a domain name and designing the web site. It is more costly as such a web site also needs to be hosted compared to the free hosting and pre-designed layouts available to bloggers.

So why not get started with a free blog?

Blogging is about writing - not like writing a novel, but just writing about something as if you are talking to a friend. Keeping a blog can sharpen your writing, researching and internet skills. You may write or even find short, helpful articles that can help to drive traffic to your blog. These skills can be put to good use should you later want to create your own hosted web site.

Once you feel comfortable with the blogging process and you decide to make money, you can get back to the hard work. There are many experts suggesting to us how to make money from blogging. However, the fundamentals are too often ignored in the rush to make money. The truth is that in order to make your blog profitable, you need training, good content, good promotion, lots of marketing and plenty of hard work.

Get started - and happy blogging!

Either I have learned nothing in my three years of blogging or I am totally stupid tonight.
I posted a long comment offering some advice to you but nothing happened on your comments page.

anyway, if you cannot see my previous comment, you can contact me by visiting my gift blog and sending me an e-mail referring to this comment.

Maybe an old woman should go to bed earlier on a Saturday night.

    Here's to your success

  2. Ok, let's try again....

    Hi Johan
Elsie from South Africa here and a fan of iMod too. (left quite a few comments there too although I am also or have been trying to start an online business since 2006, hehe, still wasting my time sometimes signing up for new things and taking ages to read or trying to read most of them, but I am getting there too, slowly but surely!)

I decided to leave a comment here on your blog and not on iMod - as Chris's policy is to not really leave links to other sites, but I thought that if you really want to use blogging to start on your internet journey, I can recommend you take a look at Yaro Starak's Entrepreneurs Journeyblog. He has a free e-book called the Blog Profits Blueprint (download in right hand side of blog)full of amazing stuff and his blog is on my favourite must read lists.

I don't know what exactly you want to do on the internet but I can give you a few starter reads from South African money makers who have good programs (e.g. Joan Masterson, Pieter Pretorius, etc. ) they also comment quite a lot on iMod... and I have earned some money last year from a method called Bum Marketing. I actually received quite a good tip from this guy today on how to promote affiliate sales again.

If you are interested, you can send me an e-mail and I am willing to share some more ideas with you that you can try.

I'm going to sign in here from my gift blog link. There is a button in the sidebar which will take you to an e-mail address if you are interested in some more tips.

I know how frustrating it is to start this alone and I would really like to give people some help. I suffered blood, sweat and tears all alone when I first started my blogs in 2006

Maybe you should delete this long comment after all.

I like your information on this blog and wish you a lot of success. At our age it is a challenge but worth it to learn new things and keep up with new technology.

    Regards from Theunissen, Free State

    Elsie
